A confession that’s completely unrelated to any travel writing, photography or other interests I’ve written about here. I love “The Walking Dead” on AMC. It was just at first a way to fill in the gap left by the prolonged “Mad Men” hiatus. I also wanted to see this British actor, Andrew Lincoln, who was going to star as the main character and who was also in one of my favorite sappy movies of all time, “Love Actually”. It wasn’t likely that I’d watch a program about the zombie apocalypse – I HATE zombies. But it’s been a great show, despite the copious amounts of gore and general yucky ways zombies and people die. Even RA watches it with me, and there’s not much we agree upon, TV-wise. It’s a bummer that we are going to have to wait until October to see what happens next.
Now, “Mad Men” is coming back, just as “The Walking Dead” is ending, so of course I’m ecstatic. Sunday seems to be the best night for my TV viewing, since I also watch “The Amazing Race” when it’s on. As a recovering political junkie, I don’t watch MSNBC as much now, especially since Keith Olbermann was canned and went to Current TV (which we don’t get). I now get my political fix from “The Rachel Maddow Show”, “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report”…and snippets of Ed Schultz and Lawrence O’Donnell. So I figure I’m not that bad when it comes to the evils of TV. Or really, am I just zombied out like the rest of America that watches less substantive fare?
Nah, I think I’m being pretty good. But I still can’t believe one of my favorite shows is about the zombie apocalypse.
