It’s been almost two weeks since I came back from the American Writers and Artists Inc.‘s (AWAI) three-day workshop. Ostensibly, it’s called Fast Track to Copywriting Success, but just about everyone associated with it calls it “Bootcamp,” because that’s what it feels like when you’re there. At least, that’s what your mental facilities go through. Your body, like it would in a traditional bootcamp, not so much, since you’re sitting a lot, all day long.
That’s why I have been MIA, in a way here. I’ve been trying to write up short specs to submit to marketers and possibly get some good solid writing work to jumpstart my copywriting venture.
The most successful direct response and online copywriters gather together in Delray Beach, a seaside community about 10 miles south of Palm Beach, Florida. And a bunch of newbie, veterans and unclassified people like me learn from and mix with them. Overall it’s a pretty awesome experience.
But what made it really special was meeting people that I can connect with and get support from in this copywriting career I’m trying to launch. That’s what’s been the most exciting part about it. I never put much stock in virtual groups, communicating through emails, Facebook, Skype, you name it. Now I’m beginning to see how valuable it really is.
Thanks, Shauna, Brian, Augustin, Chris, Herb, June, Susan, Steve, and more than a few others. I’m looking forward to keeping in touch with all of you, and hopefully seeing you next year!
