So in my other life, I work at local school, and I mostly enjoy what I do there. I especially love working directly with the kids, in particular the younger ones. They are attitude-free for the most part and have a honest, pure joy and boundless energy. Perhaps it was because of the idea of taking advantage of the situation, but I never thought of taking pictures of them. I think it’s also because I think that some parent will come out of nowhere and object to my taking pictures of their child without their express written permission, or even verbal consent.
But as part of my monthly assignment for a photo website club, I had to shoot the theme of “Fun and Games”. I particularly loved this one:
Unfortunately, the last two girls on the right are out of focus. Bummer, it would’ve probably been a good stock candidate it I had secured model releases of the kids.
This one was a little underexposed, and the composition was kind of boring:
Also, there are just too many competing shadows in the background. It also might’ve worked better if the ball was blurred, to convey motion.
Here’s the one I ultimately chose:
This might be a little too ambiguous for stock, but I thought the unusual angle, the open space of the sky and the small hint of a ball at the top would convey the message well enough. His head is out of focus, which may disqualify the picture from any acceptances, but it was the best one out of my batch. Oh well, just have to keep on improving…
